About the Doctor

Brian J. Marien, MD, RVT, FACS

Dr. Brian J.Marien attended the State University of New York at Buffalo where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa and Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelors of Science degree in Biochemistry. He then attended medical school at the State University of New York at Buffalo where he was elected into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society and graduated Summa Cum Laude. Dr. Marien completed his General Surgery residency at The University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School (Rutger's). He then completed a Vascular Surgery Fellowship at Boston University Medical Center. During that time, Dr. Marien also obtained his training and certification as a Registered Vascular Technologist. In addition, he also completed a Critical Care Fellowship and worked for two years as a Cardiac Surgical Intensivist as well as an Emergency Room Physician.

Dr. Marien is Board Certified in Vascular Surgery and General Surgery. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, member of the Society for Vascular Surgery as well as a member of the American Venous Forum. In addition, he is the Wound Care Director at Timber Ridge Health Care Facility.

Dr. Marien is the only remaining private practice Vascular Surgeon in the Wyoming Valley. He is not employed by any hospital entity. This is relevant to you as a patient as there is no 40% upcharge on office visits, tests or procedures as seen by the other vascular surgeons in the area. There is no clinic fee associated with the office or vascular laboratory seen with the other area hospitals, hospital owned imaging facilities or physician practices. Dr. Marien does not employ a Physician's Assistant or Nurse Practitioner. Therefore, all patients in the office and hospital are seen by him personally.

Dr. Marien has special interests in carotid artery surgery, peripheral bypass surgery, abdominal aortic aneurysm surgery, wound care and varicose veins. He authored the first North American published research paper on the use of Bovine Pericardium for patch angioplasty after carotid endarterectomy. He is the only vascular surgeon in Northeastern Pennsylvania that performs all procedures necessary to treat varicose veins and venous stasis ulcers including Endovenous Laser Ablation Therapy, Ambulatory Microphlebectomy, Injection Foam Sclerotherapy, Terminal Interruption of Reflux Source (TIRS) and Cutaneous Laser Therapy.
